RISE has successfully finalized one of our most ambitious projects this year – delivering and installing a system of 4 GNSS reference stations broadcasting RTK correction for ships in the vicinity of the Romanian Black Sea coast. The 4 stations were installed at 4 landing lighthouses operated by the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate – the Romanian national authority covering the maritime hydrography and marine cartography, as well as maritime signaling using lighthouses.

As the official distributor of Septentrio in Romania, we had the opportunity to base our solution on one of the most complete reference GNSS receivers in the world: the PolaRx5e. The core of the equipment includes a high power long range RF transceiver and the corresponding GNSS&UHF antennas. Although the receiver’s built-in battery allows operations for up to 24 hours in the event of power outages, the equipment installed includes an additional UPS extending this protection also for the secondary devices of the stations (i.e. LTE internet modems, RF broadcast modems). We note that besides the technical challenges, our skilled personnel had to properly install a suite of antennas at ground and on each lighthouse to ensure greater RF range for the broadcast signal.
